The post office has a new printer at its Ottawa hub that makes paper at a much higher speed than a normal printer.
The new printer uses the same ink cartridges and ink cartridges as the ones used in traditional machines, but is made of a special polymer called “super-flexible polyurethane,” the Postmaster General said Monday.
That means the ink cartridges are thinner, the ink has a higher density, and the ink can be cleaned and cleaned again.
The printer also uses special ink cartridges that aren’t available in the ordinary printing business.
The printer was first spotted in Canada in March and has been installed in some of the country’s biggest post offices since.
The first printing was on Monday at the Toronto-Dominion Bank branch.
“It’s a much faster machine, because we can print faster than what’s available,” said John Boulanger, a Toronto-based partner with the printing company.
“It’s just so exciting, it’s just like the printing revolution, which is just like what we’re doing with printing in the 21st century.”
He said the new printer is a big step forward.
“We want to make sure that it’s in every post office and every business and every place that we can, that they’re having a paper-based economy, and that paper-free economy is one that we’re going to be happy with,” he said.
The first commercial printing of the new paper-powered machine was at the Ottawa Post Office in June.
It used the ink of the Superflex cartridge.
The Postmaster said the technology is in the process of being commercialized.
He said the company is planning to sell its inkjet printer to the U.S.
Postmaster General Carolyn Bennett said the machine is in its earliest stages of testing and that the first printers are expected to arrive in Canada sometime this summer.
She said it is not clear when that might happen, but that the company would like to have it ready to use by the end of the year.
